Boscobel, WI-Virjeanne Ann Brown, age 89, passed away on Sunday morning August 10, 2025, at the Boscobel Care and Rehabilitation. She was born on July 4, 1936, in Davenport, IA the daughter of Arthur and Elfrida (Nygaard) Larson. Virjeanne moved to Crawford County in Wisconsin in the middle of her junior year in high school. She met her husband, Richard “Dick” Brown on the school bus. They were united in marriage on November 20, 1955, at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Boscobel. They moved to a farm in Crawford County and spent their entire lifetime there.
As the years passed, Virjeanne began working at the Boscobel Nursing Home as a Nurse’s Aide. She eventually worked at Boscobel Hospital where she often helped in labor and delivery. Virjeanne worked there for 37 years until retiring as a Health Unit Clerk at the age of 70. She had a great personality which made her an extraordinary wife, mother, and grandmother, along with making her wonderful at her job. Virjeanne liked giving to others which made Christmas time her favorite time of year. Spending time with family along with making Christmas cookies for family and fiends are deeply cherished memories.
Virjeanne was a born again Christian and was proud to honor her Lord and Savior. She was an active member of the Maple Ridge Bible Church, the Mary’s and Martha’s ladies group and played the piano at church for many services.
Virjeanne is survived by her husband Richard Brown, three children: Diane (Bryce) Collins, and Don (Lori) Brown all of rural Boscobel, and Debbie (Keith) Nebel of DeSoto, KS, seven grandchildren: Andy Collins, Chris (Kristen) Collins, Luke (Crystal) Brown, Josh (Morgan) Brown, Angela (Casey) Updike, Jonathan (Michelle) Nebel, and Alex Nebel, 13 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Virjeanne was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters Marion Stein and Sandy Benisch, and two brothers Bud Larson and Jim Larson, and two sisters-in-law Violet Larson and Carol Larson, and two brothers-in-law Frank Stein and Harold Benisch.
In lieu of plants and flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Loving Memory of Virjeanne Brown. This fund will be distributed to various organizations that were dear to her and her family.
Visitation
9:00 A.M. until the time of service at the church on Saturday morning.
Funeral Services
11:30 A.M. on Saturday August 16, 2025, at the Maple Ridge Bible Church in rural Boscobel, WI.
Burial Services
Immediately following the funeral service, everyone is invited for food and fellowship in the church hall. Burial will follow the luncheon in the Haney Ridge Cemetery in rural Gays Mills, WI.
