Robert Swenson, age 93, of Fennimore died on Monday morning May 27, 2013 at the Fennimore Good Samaritan Society in Fennimore. Robert was born on August 16, 1919 in Fennimore, WI the son of Thomas and Lena (Johnsrud) Swenson. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Govier on Oct. 8, 1942 in Madison, WI.
Following graduation from Fennimore High School, Robert met the love of his life Dorothy. After their marriage Robert farmed his family farm until purchasing in the mid 1960’s. Bob farmed until retiring and moving to Fennimore in the early 1990’s. Robert was also a self taught carpenter and built numerous homes throughout the Fennimore area. Robert was an active member of the Castle Rock Lutheran Church, Gideon’s, and the Fennimore Kiwanis. He held various positions within these organizations. He also served at the Fennimore Good Samaritan Society Chaplin for 11 years. He and Dorothy had been recognized as the Fennimore Family of the year in 2011. He loved playing his guitar, singing, and serving his Lord. Robert has touched so many lives through his music, his generous heart, and his power of prayer with family and friends. Bob felt truly blessed by having a wonderful family, caring friends, and a community that adored him.
Robert is survived by his five children; Ron (Judy) Swenson of Flower Mound Texas, Joyce (David) Eisele of Big Falls, WI, Paul (Bonnie) Swenson of Parker, CO, Corinne (Richard) Winkers of Menasha, WI, and Beverly (Mark) Jones of Verona, WI. Robert is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 20 great-grand children, 5 great-great grandchildren.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, wife Dorothy on June 9, 2012, brothers; Stuart and Leroy Swenson and sister Claribelle Hoffland.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday morning May 30, 2013 at the Castle Rock Lutheran Church, Hickory Grove Township, Grant County, WI with burial to follow in the Church Cemetery. Pastor Kathy Jacobson will be officiating. Friends and family may call from 5-7:00 P.M. on Wednesday evening May 29, 2013 at the Larson Family Funeral Home in Fennimore and from 10:00 A.M until the time of services at the Church on Thursday morning.
