Mildred L. Miller

Mildred MillerFennimore – Mildred “Millie” Lorraine Miller, age 94 passed away peacefully on Tuesday evening May 14, 2013 at the Fennimore Good Samaritan Society in Fennimore.  Mildred was born on Aug. 11, 1918 in Fennimore to Vearl and Hannah (Needham) Rogers.

Millie graduated from Fennimore High School in 1936 and closes the chapter for this class as she was the last survivor. Mildred married Kenneth M. Miller on Nov. 9, 1937 in Fennimore and together they had four children; Patricia, Sharon, Bob and Kay. They farmed all their 70 years together and still found time to travel abroad and throughout the United States. Millie loved hard work and enjoyed giving friends and neighbors her berries, apples and vegetables from her large garden and berry patch. During her free time, created by rising early and doing her work at a double time pace, Millie loved to head to her favorite fishing hole.  Whether summertime of thru the ice, where Millie was known as “Queen of the Ice”, she thoroughly enjoyed fishing.  The many pan fish she caught rapidly disappeared on her husband’s March birthday when the house was filled to capacity with neighbors, children, and grandchildren. In later years she looked forward to going to Lancaster every Wednesday for potluck and an afternoon of euchre with her friends.

Mildred is survived by three children; Sharon (David) Winkler of Sarasota, FL, Robert (Magdalen) Miller of Fennimore, and Kay (Mel) Hoff of Minocqua, nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, son-in-law Keith Baumgartner of Fennimore, and two foster children Francis Moon and May Lou (Moon) Stutz.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, husband Kenneth on Jan. 9, 2008, daughter Patricia Baumgartner on Dec. 13, 2008, brother Earl Rogers, and sister Alice Ronneberg.
