He was born on November 22, 1941, in Dodgeville the son of George and Catherine (Berg) Tomas. Virgil married Karen Day on December 8, 1962, and welcomed two daughters. He was born on January 12, 1928 in Lancaster, the son of John and Doretha (Leise) Sager. Ken graduated from Lancaster High School in 1945 and shortly after joined the United States Army.
