Peggy Ann (Welch) Hrubes

Stitzer, WI - Peggy Ann (Welch) Hrubes, age 71, of Stitzer was called home to be with the Lord surrounded by family at home after a long courageous battle with cancer on December 7, 2025.

Peggy was born on March 28, 1954, in Boscobel, WI to Gaylord Deaver Welch and Evelyn Eleanor (Cohen) Welch Johnsrud. She graduated from Fennimore High School in 1972. She later received her X-Ray Technician associates degree from Western Wisconsin Technical College. She married Anthony Michael Hrubes Jr. on September 7, 1974, with her grandfather Rev. Harold Welch and Father Jerald Fitzpatrick officiating. Together they lived in Livingston until 2002 and had three children Deanna, Alyssa, and Teresa. They moved to the country where they currently reside.

She was well known in the community. She worked for many years in local healthcare facilities around Southwest Wisconsin in Grant and Iowa counties. She enjoyed her work and her patients and coworkers were always like family to her. She ended her career in Madison at Associated Physicians where she had the opportunity to work with a special coworker from her hometown of Livingston. Many patients and staff still ask and talk about her even after she retired.

Peggy was hard working, strong, caring, and had a heart that never stopped giving. She loved stamping and making cards and spending time with her family. Peggy was always there when someone needed help. She deeply loved and cherished her family, grandkids, great grandchild, and her friends more than anything in the world! 2 Timothy 4:7 says, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” Until we see you again, we will find comfort in his light!

Peggy will be deeply missed by her husband Tony of 51 years; her children Deanna (Chris) Needham and their children Nicholas, Noah, Claire, and Chloey of Fennimore; Alyssa (Jason) Germaine and children Emmerson and Ellison Moen (Montfort), and Maxwell Hrubes of Dubuque, IA; Teresa (Jeremy) Hahn and their children Kaden (Ashley) Hahn, Malin, and Lola of Fennimore; and a great grandchild Lyla Hahn; her brothers Steve (Becky) Welch of Hopkinton, IA; Garry (Darlene) Welch of Janesville; and Dan (Shelley) Welch of Argyle. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters-in-law: Francis (Sharon) Hrubes of Prairie Du Chein, Dianne (Dale) Kovars of Fennimore, Sue (Tim) May of Evansville, Charlie (Cathy) Hrubes of Livingston, Debbie (Eric) Tranberg of Montfort, Joe (Diane) Hrubes of Muscoda, and Mike Hrubes of Montfort.

She will be missed but forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. As we grieve, we hold fast to the promise of resurrection and eternal life, finding peace in knowing she is in the loving arms of our Lord. May she rest in peace in Heaven until we meet again.

She was preceded in death by her parents Gaylord and Evelyn, her mother and father-in-law Anthony and Alice Hrubes, her brothers-in-law Bill, Terry, and Peter Hrubes, sister-in-law Donna Hrubes, and aunt Janet Draggs.

It is her wish to be cremated, and her ashes spread at a later date. Private family services will be held at Larson Family Funeral Home officiated by Pastor Steve Kottke. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent to the family or Larson Family Funeral Home and will be donated to the Grant County Cancer Coalition as their mission meant so much to her. They can also be sent and addressed to Tony Hrubes 2284 Townline Rd, Stitzer, WI 53825, or Venmo to Alyssa Germaine @ Alyssa-Hrubes GCCC PH (Grant County Cancer Coalition Peggy Hrubes)
