Helen J. Cushman

Livingston, WI-Helen J. Cushman, age 84, of Livingston died on Thursday Oct. 11, 2012 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison. Helen was born on April 5, 1928 in Platteville, WI the daughter of Harvey and Jennie (Jackson) Wehnke.  She was united in marriage to Cyril Vincent “Pat” Cushman on March 28, 1948 at the Peace Lutheran Church in Platteville, WI.

Following graduation from Platteville High School, Helen worked as the Livingston switchboard operator until going to work at Burgess Battery in Platteville. Later she was employed at Rayovac in Fennimore for numerous years until her retirement. Helen enjoyed staying busy therefore, she went back to work at Land’s End in Dodgeville until August of 2011. Helen loved fishing, gardening, and camping with her family. She was always willing to lend a helping hand around her son’s campground “Big H” in Cassville, enjoyed traveling to Pakistan to visit her daughter, and was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s number one fan in all their endeavors. She was an awesome cook and baked the best pies. Helen’s passion for life and living each day to the fullest will be greatly missed.

Helen is survived by her two children; Steven (Judy) Cushman of Belmont, and Kathy (Najmul) Arafin of Karachi, Pakistan; five grandchildren; Jennifer (Mark) Stevens of Linden, Angela (Wyatt Wendhausen) Cushman of Dodgeville, Ryan (Tracy) Cushman of Belmont, Sami (Ralitza) Arafin of St. Louis, MO, and Saima (Saadat) Khan of Minneapolis, MN along with 11 great grandchildren.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Husband; Pat on July 14, 1996, and her sister Ruth Robbins on Aug. 6, 2003.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday Oct. 16, 2012 at the Soman-Larson Funeral Home in Montfort with burial to follow in the Rock Church Cemetery rural Livingston. A visitation will be held from 4-8:00 P.M. on Monday evening Oct. 15, 2012 at the Soman-Larson Funeral Home in Montfort and from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at the funeral home on Tuesday morning. In lieu of plants and flowers memorials may be given in memory of Helen J. Cushman.
