Edward J. “Eddie” Vavricka, age 87, died on Saturday afternoon April 28, 2018 at Bloomfield Healthcare in rural Dodgeville. Edward was born on June 16, 1930 in Wingville Township Grant Co., WI the son of Joseph and Flora (Dyer) Vavricka. He was united in marriage to Doris Crawford on Sept. 30, 1950 in Prairie du Chien.
After graduating from Montfort High School, Eddie continued farming on the family farm. As the years passed, the farm was recognized as a Century Farm by the state of Wisconsin and had been owned and operated by four generations. Eddie thoroughly enjoyed farming with his brother-in-law for all those years. He stayed on the farm until 2014 and moved to Linden. Eddie liked going deer hunting and spending time with his pet Cocker spaniels. He also enjoyed going to flea markets and collecting antiques, Sunday fishing trips with family, and hosting the annual Forth of July party for family, friends, and neighbors. Eddie loved the simple life and loved his years spent on the farm.
Eddie is survived by his two children, Terry (Sue) Vavricka of Cobb, Doug (Sue) Vavricka of Livingston, four grandchildren, T.J. (Cassie) Vavricka of Montfort, Jaime (Fiancé Brent Cullen) Vavricka of Shullsburg, Erika (Chris) Aultman of Montfort, Loren (Michelle) Vavricka of Grafton, two step grandchildren, Justin (Jenny) Moon of Mt. Hope, Melanie (Mark) Cuper of Clear Lake, 14 great grandchildren and 4 step-great grandchildren, sister Marilyn (Donald) Winkers of Montfort, half sister Sue (Doug) Fleming of Fennimore, and step sister-in-law Alana Vavricka of Fennimore.
Eddie was preceded in death by his parents, wife Doris Vavricka on Dec. 2, 2013, step mother Daisy Vavricka, and step brother Mike Vavricka.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday May 2, 2018 at the Soman-Larson Funeral Home in Montfort with burial to follow in the Eden Cemetery in Eden Township, Iowa Co., WI. Visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. until time of service at the funeral home on Wednesday morning. In lieu of plants and flowers a memorial fund is being established in loving memory of Edward J. “Eddie” Vavricka.
