Muscoda/Castle Rock, WI – Connie Shemak, age 56 of Castle Rock Twsp., Grant Co., WI died unexpectedly on Tuesday morning Nov. 26, 2013 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison. Connie was born on Sept. 30, 1957 in Dodgeville, WI the daughter of John and Fern (Fredrickson) Kreul. She married Pat Shemak on Sept. 29, 1979 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Highland, WI.
Following graduation from Highland High School in 1975, Connie earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from UW-Platteville. Connie and her husband Pat owned and operated the Castle Rock Ridge restaurant for 16 years from 1980-1996. In 1988 Connie went to work for the accounting department at CESA III in Fennimore. She later obtained her accounting degree from Southwest Wisconsin Technical College and furthered her education with a Master’s Degree in School Business Management from UW-Whitewater. Connie retired from CESA III in 2011 as their Business Manager.
Connie was a long time member of the Altar Society at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church and served as treasurer for Castle Rock Township for over 20 years. She enjoyed working outside in her flower gardens, playing cards with family and friends, embroidering, listening to her favorite music artist Jim McDonough, and traveling throughout the world with her husband Pat. Connie was a wonderful woman who worked very hard and always enjoyed life to the fullest. She touched the hearts of many and her selflessness will never be forgotten.
Connie is survived by her loving husband Pat of Castle Rock, daughter Amy (Michael) Murphy of Gainesville, FL along with granddaughter Nallia Murphy, and parents John and Fern Kreul of Montfort. Connie is also survived by her siblings; Theresa (Harold) Pink of Highland, John (Kathy) Kreul of Highland, Peggy Johnson of Montfort, and Jim (Chris) Kreul of Reedsburg, brother and sister-in-laws; Mike (Lynnette) Shemak, Dan (Carla) Shemak, Tom (Kelly) Shemak all of Highland, and Kathy Shemak of Dodgeville, and many special nieces and nephews.
Connie was preceded in death by a sister-in-law Chris Shemak, brother-in-law Peter Shemak, and a niece Stephanie Joe Shemek.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday Nov. 30, 2013 at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Castle Rock Twsp., Grant Co., WI with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Father Miguel Galvez will be officiating. A visitation will be held from 4-8:00 P.M. on Friday evening Nov. 29, 2013 at the Soman-Larson Funeral Home in Montfort where a Rosary Service will be held at 3:30 P.M.
