Fennimore, WI – Bernice W. Stenner, age 92 of Fennimore died on Thursday morning Nov. 21, 2013 at the Fennimore Good Samaritan Society in Fennimore. Bernice was born on April 4, 1921 on the family homestead in Marion Township, Grant Co., WI, the daughter of Charles and Mary (Bender) Stenner.
Bernice received her early education at the Brechler Country School and later graduated from Fennimore High School in 1939. Following graduation, Bernice worked as a housekeeper for families in the Fennimore area until moving to Madison in 1951 where she worked at the State Welfare Office for 10 years. After both of Bernice’s parents passed away, she flew out to California in Nov. 1962 to be close to her sister Nora. Bernice later moved in with Nora and her brother-in-law Delos Eustice in Sept. of 1973. Bernice worked at Sears in Los Angeles and later was a bookkeeper for Montgomery Ward in Norwalk until her retirement. She became a member of the Norwalk United Methodist Church in 1972.
Bernice was an avid sports fan, especially cheering for the LA Dodgers and Angels and the Milwaukee Braves. She also enjoyed sewing, reading, and was a meticulous bookkeeper. She spent hours checking records and making notes about everything. When her sister Nora died, Bernice returned to Fennimore in 2004 and had been residing at the Good Samaritan Society since Nov. 2010.
Bernice is survived by two nieces; Linda Gray of Fennimore, and Donna Guzman of California, and six nephews; David (Ann) Stenner of Fennimore, Chuck (Mary Ann) Stenner of Fennimore, Todd (Bonnie) Stenner of Boscobel, Tom Stenner of Lancaster, and Mike and Bill Stenner both of California.
Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, brothers; Roy, Carl, Ralph, Mark, and Harold, sister Nora Eustice, and nephews Dennis “Lou” Stenner and Jeff Stenner.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday Nov. 25, 2013 at the Fennimore United Methodist Church in Fennimore with burial to follow in the Prairie Cemetery. Pastor Duane Andrus will be officiating. Friends and family may call from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at the church on Monday morning. The Larson Family Funeral Home of Fennimore is assisting the family.
