Cheryl I. Burr

Cheryl I. Burr, age 92, of Fennimore, WI died on Friday evening Jan. 4, 2019 at the Orchard Manor in Lancaster. She was born on Aug. 31, 1926 in Marion Township Grant Co., WI the daughter of Ora & Delphia (Walker) Updike. Cheryl was united in marriage to Edward T. Burr on Dec. 15, 1946 at the Boscobel United Methodist Church in Boscobel.

Cheryl graduated from Boscobel High School and went to work in the clothing department for J.C. Penny. After her marriage to Ed, they moved to Fennimore where they farmed together for 17 years. Cheryl always enjoyed working in the clothing department so she managed the clothing store in Fennimore for Margaret Lind. In 1960, Cheryl and Ed moved from the farm and built a home in Fennimore. Cheryl also found enjoyment working as a cook for the Fennimore School District for several years. Always wanting to stay busy, she also worked during the holiday season at Land’s End of Dodgeville for many years.  Cheryl loved playing cards, gardening and working outdoors around their home, canning, sewing, quilting, embroidering and traveling south each year with Ed. Cheryl was devoted to her husband, children, and especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She left many fond memories with them all. Cheryl was an active member of the Fennimore United Methodist Church and will be dearly missed.

Cheryl is survived by her daughter Jacque and her husband Jeff Birchman of Fennimore, two grandsons; Jim and his wife Jamie Birchman of Fennimore and Mike Birchman and fiancé Amy Stark of Fennimore, along with five great grandchildren; Alex, Brett, Cade, Haylie, and Haizen Birchman.

Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ed on Nov. 12, 2011, son Jerry Burr in 1966, sister Beulah Hipenbecker and brother Delbert Updike.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday Jan. 9, 2019 at the Fennimore United Methodist Church in Fennimore with burial to follow in the Hillside Cemetery in Lancaster. Visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. until time of service on Wednesday morning at the church. The Larson Family Funeral Home is assisting the family.
