Mildred H. “Millie” Olson, age 94, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family, on Saturday, December 8, 2018, at Tivoli Divine Savior Healthcare in Portage, WI.
Millie was born on September 30, 1924, in Petersburg, Iowa, to Anton and Frances (Wegmann) Weber, and was raised in rural Bloomington, Wisconsin. She then worked at Parker Pen in Fennimore, until marrying her husband of over 46 years, Ordell W. Olson, on June 8, 1953.
Millie and Ordell raised their sons while farming together on the Olson family farm near Castle Rock, in rural Fennimore, for 22 years. In 1975, they moved to the city of Fennimore, and Millie became employed at Ray-O-Vac, eventually retiring to spend more time with her grandchildren. Together, they took great pride in their family. Millie also dedicated to her life to her Lord and Savior and was an active member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
After Ordell’s passing in 1999, Millie stayed active by spending time with family and friends, reading, and attending grandchildren’s activities, as well as being a member of the Red Hat Society. In 2012, Millie moved to the Tivoli healthcare facility, where she could be closer to her 3 sons, Gary, Tim, and Ron, and their families. She spent over 6 years there, receiving wonderful and loving care. Everyone at the facility knew Millie, as her sweetness brought a smile, to everyone she met.
Millie was a kind, gentle person, committed to her family, and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren, including watching the annual Christmas plays that they wrote and performed….which “Grandma” cherished; she thought they were the best!
Millie is survived by her 3 sons, Gary (Mary Lou) of Hatfield, Tim of Lodi, and Ron (Tana) of Portage; 6 grandchildren, Amber (Justin) Ostrowski of Portage, Ashley Olson (fiancé Max Nachreiner) of Plain, Aaron Olson of Portage, Jeni (Garrett) Bartowitz of Brookfield, Melissa (Jason) Weber of Platteville, and Brad (Heather) Olson of Rockland; 8 great grandchildren, Landon & Lucas Ostrowski; Isabella, David and Joseph Bartowitz; Conner Weber and step-grandchild Hunter Weber; Raelyn and Rosalie Marie Olson; one sister, Betty Junk of Lancaster, and one brother, Joe Weber of Taylors, SC; sister in-law Phyllis Weber of Prairie du Chien.
Millie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ordell, a sister Lorraine Osterhaus, brothers Leo, Brother Alfred, and Gib; sister in-laws Florence Weber, and Betty Weber; brother in-laws Linus Osterhaus and Loren Junk; and daughter in-law Candy.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 A.M. on Saturday, December 15, 2018, at the Larson Family Funeral Home in Fennimore, with burial to follow in the St. Mary’s Catholic Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:30A.M. until the time of service at the funeral home on Saturday morning.
The family wishes to thank all the care providers at the Tivoli Divine Savior Healthcare facility, for their compassionate care.
