Cobb, WI- Margaret Virginia Roelli, age 92 of Cobb died on Friday Aug. 16, 2013 at Bloomfield Manor in rural Dodgeville, WI. Virginia was born on March 17, 1921 in Shullsburg, WI the daughter of John & Fanny (Rock) Cherry. Virginia graduated from New Diggings High School in 1938 and enjoyed working as a supervisor at Simpson Electric in Chicago from 1941-1945. On June 20, 1947 she was united in marriage to Harold Roelli at the New Diggings Primitive Methodist Church. Harold & she made cheese at the Waldwick Cheese Factory for 17 years before moving to Cobb in 1963 when Harold became an American Family Insurance agent. Virginia belonged to the Cobb United Methodist Church, UMW Women, American Legion Auxiliary, and Past President’s Club, as she was president of the Iowa County Council. She was an Eastern Star Officer in Mineral Point before transferring to Linden, and belonged to the Iowa County Cancer Board. Virginia was also a Hospice Volunteer and is a life member of the Hospital Auxiliary. Back in the day, Virginia loved dancing with GI's at the Aaragon Ballroom in Chicago or the Palace in Galena. She enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing, any card or board game, talking back to Judge Judy, and of course spending time with her three grandsons. Though Virginia was in a wheel chair the last twenty-two years, she remained as active as she could and enjoyed life. She will be remembered for her uncontrollable laughter. Her last two years were spent at Bloomfield Manor, which she thoroughly enjoyed. Many thanks to the staff there for their care.
Virginia is survived by her two children; Robert (Rhonda) Roelli of Cobb, June Thompson of Thiensville, three grandchildren; Casey (Sammy) Roelli, Cole (Christl Burns) Roelli both of Cobb, and Teddy (Fiancé Jamie) Thompson of New York City, NY, and two great grandchildren; Ashton and Jaeden.
Virginia was preceded in death by her devoted husband Harold and a son-in-law, Paul Thompson.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday Aug. 19, 2013 at the Cobb United Methodist Church with burial of her cremated remains to be at a later date in the Calvary Cemetery in Cobb. Pastor Gary Benzschawel will be officiating. Immediately following the memorial service at the church, friends are welcome to join the family for food and fellowship in the church hall. The Soman-Larson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
