Gordon M. Hulsether

Gordon Hulsether-1Fennimore – Gordon M. Hulsether, age 91 passed from this life surrounded by his loving family on Thursday morning March 7, 2013 at the Fennimore Good Samaritan Society. Gordon was born on March 28, 1921 in Castle Rock Township, Grant Co., WI the son of George and Mabel (Williams) Hulsether.

Gordon was a life-long member of the Castle Rock Lutheran Church. His special contribution was as a board member of the Castle Rock Lutheran Church Cemetery Association for 39 years.  Gordon was active in the community as a loyal member of both the VFW and the Montfort bowling team.  He especially loved lutefisk, lefse, the Chicago Cubs, and the annual Wood Lake fishing trip.  He was kind, loving, cheerful, and generous throughout his whole life.

Following graduation for Montfort High School in 1939, Gordon served in the U.S. Navy as an Aviation Machinist Mate First Class from 1942-1946 in the South Pacific.  After returning home, he began operating the family farm in 1950, and farmed continuously until his retirement.  He was the caregiver of both his parents until their deaths.  Gordon was a beloved brother, uncle and friend to many.

Gordon is survived by a sister Alice Doeringsfeld Gustafson of Fennimore, a brother Charles (Harriet) Hulsether of Viroqua, extended family, and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Leona Yelinek, and his niece Kay Doeringsfeld.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday March 11, 2013 at Castle Rock Lutheran Church in Hickory Grove Township, Grant Co., WI with burial to follow in the church cemetery.  Pastor Kathy Jacobson will be officiating.  A visitation will be held from 4 – 8:00 P.M. on Sunday evening March 10, 2013 at the Larson Family Funeral Home in Fennimore and from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at the church on Monday morning. In lieu of plants and flowers a memorial fund is being established in loving memory of Gordon M. Hulsether.
