FENNIMORE – Wayne E. Raymond, age 88, passed away on Friday morning October 4, 2024, at Prairie Maison Nursing Home in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. He was born on September 29, 1936; the son on Leonard and Frieda (Mueller) Raymond.
Wayne was a graduate of Reedstown High School where he gained recognition as an excellent pitcher for the baseball team. He married the love of his life, Helen Holcomb on August 21, 1955, at the North Kickapoo Lutheran Church. After high school, Wayne attended UW Platteville for his Bachelor’s Degree and UW Madison for his Masters Degree in education. He taught for over 5 years at West Grant High School where he started the Agriculture Department. Wayne also worked at Grant County Extension for 4 years. He ended his career after 25 years at Southwest Technical College as a teacher and administrator.
Wayne was a proud member of the Gideons, serving as the Wisconsin Chapter President for many years. Many family vacations centered around attending Gideon conventions. His commitment to spreading Gospel was evident in his love for traveling to hear gospel quartets across the country. This devotion to faith created cherished memories for his family and reinforced the values he instilled in them.
As a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Helen, Wayne exemplified what it meant to be a partner in life. Together, they built a loving home and raised their children, teaching them the importance of hard work, integrity, and faith. Wayne was a lifetime Boston Red Sox fan and sports enthusiast. Wayne had a strong, quiet presence and had a knack for finding the silver lining in every life situation. He was a loyal friend to many and a doting grandfather to his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He looked forward to every moment spent with family and friends.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 69 years, Helen Raymond; five children: Garry (Debra) Raymond, Terri (Gary) Pulver, Sandi (Mike) Konichek, Randy Raymond, and Ronnie (Rainelde) Raymond; 13 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; and many other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Robert “Robby” Raymond; and sisters Dorothy (Joe) Guscetti and Lyndal (Bill) Glass.
