Randy Paul “Zap” Zimmerman, age 62, of Rewey passed away on Monday morning April 20, 2020 at the Mineral Point Health Services surrounded by his beloved family after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on December 31, 1957 in Cedar Rapids, IA the son of Paul and Naomia (Wagner) Zimmerman.
Randy attended Iowa-Grant High School and worked various jobs throughout the community of Rewey. He took care of numerous lawns along with doing handyman chores for many friends and neighbors. After the untimely death of his father, he became the caretaker for his mother for many years. He also enjoyed helping out at the Rewey United Methodist Church events, the Rewey Big Days, and just helping out around the park. Randy loved spending time with his friends at the Last Chance Bar in Rewey and visiting with them about the latest news. He enjoyed spending time with his many nieces and nephews and always had time for a game of Left, Right, Center. His love for the community of Rewey and the wonderful people was always deeply appreciated beyond words.
Randy is survived by his three siblings; Paula (Will) Rule of Mineral Point, Kevin (Colleen) Zimmerman of Platteville, and Wendy Rickard of Linden, his special nieces and nephews; Angie (Tim Kaiser) Udelhofen, Joyel (John Winkers) Rule of Waldwick, Jerrad (Ellen) Zimmerman of Carmargo, IL, Mike (Jill) VanSchyndle of Cuba City, Brad (Jaye) Lindner of Platteville, and Jaclyn (Jason) Beven of Platteville, Kim (Rob Kosharek) Geisking of Linden, and Jason (Rejona) Rickard of Linden along with many great nieces and nephews.
Randy was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law Dean Rickard, a very special aunt and uncle June and Glen Gadke, along with many other aunts, uncles, and cousins.
In keeping with the executive order prohibiting gatherings, a private family graveside service will be held 11:00 A.M. on Friday April 24, 2020 at the Rock Church Cemetery in rural Livingston, WI. After restrictions are lifted from the COVID-19 pandemic, the family will plan a public celebration of Randy’s life to be held at the Conservation Club outside of Rewey with food and time of fellowship. The Soman-Larson Funeral Home in Montfort is assisting the family and memorials may be sent to 203 West Grant St. Montfort, WI 53569.
