Max P. Dempsey, age 88, of Fennimore, WI passed away on Monday November 15, 2021, at the Lancaster Health Services in Lancaster surrounded by his family. He was born on March 28, 1933, in Fennimore the son of Theran and Shirley (Bausman) Dempsey. Max was united in marriage to Doris Koeller on September 4, 1954, at the Lancaster United Methodist Church.
Max graduated from Fennimore High School and then enlisted in the Army. After returning home, he and Doris moved to Prairie du Chien where he owned and operated Standard Oil delivering fuel to area homes and businesses. They moved to Fennimore and Max worked for Dell Needham and Son’s, driving dump truck until going to worked for Croft’s Lime and Gravel. He drove truck for 45 years until retiring in 1999. Max enjoyed being outdoors, working his land with his dozer, rebuilding tractors, going for jeep rides throughout the area and loved spending time with his dogs. He was a former member of the Masonic Lodge, a Zor Shriner, and 25-year member of the Fennimore Fire Department.
Max is survived by his three children: Jeff Dempsey of Phoenix, AZ, Jackie James of Reno, NV, and James (Patti) Dempsey of Omro, WI, five grandchildren: Andrew (Tiara), Jordan (Gianna), Anthony (Amber), Jennifer (Bradley), and Amanda (Josh) and five great-grandchildren along with three siblings: Barry Dempsey, Bruce (Jean) Dempsey, and Andrea (Mauri) Cook.
Max was preceded in death by his parents Theran and Shirley Dempsey, wife Doris on August 16, 2008, sister Beverly Wartenbee, brother Dean Dempsey, and sister-in-law Joan Dempsey.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday November 19, 2021, at the Fennimore United Methodist Church (Located at 1450 2nd St. Fennimore, WI 53809) with burial to follow in the Prairie Cemetery in Fennimore with Military Honors. Following the committal service at the cemetery, the family invites everyone for food and fellowship in the church hall. Visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service at the church on Friday morning.
