Marlin W. Carl, age 69, of Stitzer, WI passed away unexpectedly on Sunday July 31, 2022, in Watterstown Township Grant County, WI. He was born on November 29, 1952, in Lancaster the son of Leonard and Marian (Franzen) Carl. He was united in marriage to Christine Crubel on September 1, 1973, at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bloomington.
Marlin graduated from Fenimore High School in 1970. He enrolled at the Southwest Technical College in Fennimore and received his Associates degree in Agriculture Mechanics in 1972. He farmed in rural Stitzer until 1988 and in 1990, selling the farm in 2008. Marlin returned to college and received his Human Services degree. Marlin was later employed at Duncan Construction of Lancaster, until driving truck for Reddy Ag Service of Stitzer. He worked as a full time and later, seasonal employee for over 15 years. Marlin and Chris were also foster parents.
Marlin’s passions in life were his faith, and his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and a reader of the Bible. He loved watching his children and grandchildren play sports especially softball, which was a game he enjoyed playing in his younger years. Marlin loved the outdoors. He liked going fishing, hunting, camping, riding his motorcycle, and going for walks in nature. Marlin was a man of many talents and was never afraid to take on a new challenge. He will be remembered for his willingness to help others, always being a great listener, and a wonderful teacher about life.
Marlin is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Chris, of Stitzer, three children; Kim (Rickie) Govier of Fennimore, Mic (Jenny Goodwiler) Carl of Basswood, Kristin (Joe) Nihles of Fennimore, four grandchildren; Courtney (Wade) Sheckler of Fennimore, Dakota Govier of Dubuque, IA, Dallas Day of Stitzer, Kaiden Nihles of Fennimore, and two great-grandchildren; Maxdon and MaCoy Sheckler, nine siblings; Beverly Carl of Fennimore, Mike (Cindy) Carl of Stitzer, Colleen Carl of Jefferson City, MO, Barbara (Ron) Larson of Montfort, Marvin (Tina) Carl of Fennimore, Rita (Vince) Lease of Fennimore, Janet Carl of Fennimore, Mitch (Darlene) Carl of Stitzer, and Michele Carl of Masonville, CO, along with many nieces and nephews.
Marlin was preceded in death by his parents, brother Malcolm Carl, sister LaVonne Carl, two nephews; Nicholas Carl and Tom Gabaldon, and nephew-in-law Dave Faulkner.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon on Monday August 15, 2022, at the Larson Family Funeral Home in Fennimore. Visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service at the funeral home on Monday morning. In lieu of plants and flowers, a memorial fund is being established in loving memory of Marlin W. Carl.
