FENNIMORE – Marlene P. Everson, age 88, passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at Dove Healthcare in Fennimore. She was born on June 8, 1938, the daughter of William and Mabel (Culver) Smith.
Growing up, Marlene attended Woodman School and then graduated from Fennimore High School in 1957. After high school, Marlene began working as a waitress at Tip Top. Although she loved working alongside her husband Donnie, on their farm, Marlene spent many years working as a cook. Marlene and Donnie also worked together for Dairy Farmers of America for over 30 years, transporting milk samples around Wisconsin and Iowa.
Marlene worked at the Fennimore Truck stop for more than 15 years, where she was known for her homemade pies, baking as many as 15 pies each day. She also cooked at the sale barn, and later at The Hilltop, where she worked for 15 years. As she approached retirement years, Marlene began serving lunch at the elementary school, where she stayed until her last grandchild moved up to the middle school.
Marlene and Donnie enjoyed camping in Bagley and trips to the casino together. She also looked forward to many WARCO bus trips with her close group of friends. Above all, Marlene cherished time spent with her family. Cooking was a lifelong passion that began at home, and she found special joy in family gatherings where she could prepare and serve a homecooked meal with the ones she loved most.
Marlene is survived by her children: Bryan Everson (Brenda Martin), Mark (Kylene) Everson, and Jason Everson (Ronda Thompson); six grandchildren: Becky (Mark) Brown, Marc (Hillary) Gratz, Tyler (Taylor) Everson, Morgan Everson, Keely Everson, and Kenzy Everson; and five great grandchildren. She is further survived by her sister Eloda (Jerry) Miller and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Donnie; brothers: Delos (Elmyra) Smith, Loren (Donna) Smith, and Arthur Smith; two nephews, Bill and Terry Smith; father and mother in-law Wes and Lora Everson; and brother and sister-in-law Royce and Sharon Everson.
