Lyle L. Wetter

Lyle Leonard Wetter, age 91, of Fennimore passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday June 23rd.  Lyle was born on December 29th, 1927 in Boscobel WI, the son of Albert and Nellie (Rice) Wetter.  After graduating from Boscobel High School, Lyle met his wife Shirley at the Harmony Inn in Fennimore. Eighteen months later, Shirley (Smith) and Lyle were wed on June 8thin The Fennimore United Methodist Church.  For 12 years Lyle and Shirley lived and farmed on Lyle’s family farm south of Boscobel.  After leaving the family farm, Lyle moved to the Montfort area and continued to farm.  In 1966 Lyle and Shirley purchased their farm in Fennimore where he resided until his death. Early in Lyle’s farming career, Lyle similarly worked for Biddick Seed Company for seven years.

Lyle’s life revolved around his family, farm and hunting.  For many years, Lyle enjoyed his trips to Montana with his many friends and family.  For over 50 years, Lyle enjoyed hunting mule deer and antelope.  Lyle established friendships with local ranchers throughout the many years of hunting in Montana.   Many memories were made on these trips and many of these memories are cherished by those who loved Lyle.  Lyle was an avid turkey and deer hunter.  Many of the family’s most cherished memories of Lyle revolve around hunting stories.

Sports also played an integral part in Lyle’s life.  Lyle boxed in high school and played baseball.  Lyle enjoyed watching sporting events especially the Milwaukee Braves/Brewers, the Packers, and the Badgers.

Throughout Lyle’s life he carved deep friendships.  His very special friends were his neighbors Charlie and Jeanette Spitzbarth.  The family is very grateful for Jeanette’s help in Lyle’s time of need.

John Crowley was more than a cousin to Lyle.  John and his wife Rita became lifelong friends to Lyle and Shirley.  Lyle and John shared years of laughter, work, and hunting memories.  A special thanks to Rita for all that she has done for Lyle.  John and Rita’s son, Shane Crowley held an exceptionally strong place in Lyle’s heart.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Shirley Wetter of Fennimore; three brothers, Chet Wetter of Fennimore, Larry (Marlene) Wetter of Boscobel, and David (Gail) Wetter of Woodman; three sisters, Elaine (Douglas) Knudtson of DeForest, Vereen (Marvin) Fritz of Rosemount, MN, and Linda (Ron) Frericks of Hopkin, MN; many nieces and nephews; and special friend Shane (Misty) Crowley.
