Larry D. Rogers

Larry RogersLivingston, WI formerly of Fort Atkinson, WI - Larry D. Rogers, age 65 died unexpectedly on Saturday morning June 29, 2013 at the Southwest Health Center in Platteville, WI. Larry was born on April 27, 1948 in Garden City, KS the son of William “Herman” & Helen Elizabeth (Battles) Rogers. He was married to Sherrie Krause in Oct. of 1973 and then was united in marriage to Penny Smith-Faber on July 7, 2007.

Following graduation from high school, Larry attended UW-Platteville until enlisting in the US Navy. He served aboard the U.S.S. Independence from 1967 until be honorable discharged in 1970. Larry then drove truck for Wick Homes, until going to work in auto sales. He received top honors as a car salesman at Stark Automotive Group and Havill Spoerl.  He then went to work for Tower Hill State Park in Spring Green along with working at Land’s End in Dodgeville until retiring in 2006. Larry enjoyed golfing, bowling, old cars, cats, reading his daily newspaper, and was an avid Green Bay Packer fan. He also liked collecting records, cardinals, butterflies and attending the county fairs. Larry’s greatest treasures in life were his children, grandchildren and nature; he loved to be outside and go camping with his family. His wonderful sense of humor and zest for life will be deeply cherished.

Larry is survived by his wife Penny Jo of Livingston, their six children and ten grandchildren; Michael Don “Mike” Rogers of Fort Atkinson and his children Kiana & Cassidi Rogers, Jeremiah John “Jay” and Tara Rogers of Jefferson and their children Riley & Hunter Rogers, Andrea Lee “Angie” and Steve Stortz of Fort Atkinson and their children Kaylee & Ryland Stortz, Ruby and James Schauer of Mount Hope and their children Sarah, Rachel & Naomi Schauer, John Faber of Montfort, Kathern Faber of Lancaster and her child Lindsey Pohl. Larry is also survived by his three siblings; Sondra and David Strahl of Spring Green, Stan and Cheri Rogers of Spring Green, Stephanie and Steven Hildebrand of Lone Rock along with several nieces and nephews.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents and is ex-wife Sherrie.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday July 3, 2013 at the Soman-Larson Funeral Home in Montfort with Military Honors. Burial of his cremated remains will be at a later date. Pastor John Oliver of the Livingston United Methodist Church will be officiating. Friends may call from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at the funeral home on Wednesday.
