Fennimore – Joyce E. Brandt, age 92 of Fennimore, died peacefully on Saturday evening Feb. 15, 2014 at her residence in rural Fennimore. Joyce was born on Jan. 17, 1922 in Dodgeville, WI, the daughter of George and Grace (Woodbury) Phillips. She married William Brandt on Oct. 11, 1947 in Fennimore.
Following graduation from Dodgeville High School, Joyce worked at the Fennimore Cheese Warehouse in Fennimore. Her and William then lived in Virginia where Joyce worked as a bank teller for two years while William served his county overseas following WWII. In 1950, Joyce and William moved back to Fennimore and took over William’s family farm in Fennimore Township. Farming and raising a family occupied much of Joyce’s time, but when time allowed she looked forward to visiting with neighborhood friends. Joyce enjoyed gardening, needlepoint, cooking for family and friends, and traveling with her husband throughout much of the United States and Canada. Joyce’s hard work and devotion to family will forever be cherished.
Joyce is survived by her beloved husband of 66 years, William Brandt of Fennimore, children; George (Ann) Brandt of Fennimore, and Edith Brandt and her husband Scott Ruetten of De Pere, WI, granddaughter Katrina Ruetten of De Pere, brothers; Stanley (Alvina) Phillips of De Forest, and Arthur (Helen) Phillips of Dodgeville, sisters; Lois Powell of Dodgeville, and June (Nelmer) Weber of Dousman, WI, and sister-in-law Melva Phillips of Ridgeway, brother-in-law Robert (Bette) Brandt of Dayton, OH, and a sister-in-law Arlene McHatton of El Paso, TX, and many nieces and nephews.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, brother Charles Phillips, brother-in-law Jack Powell, sisters-in-law Eleanor Audetat and Katherine Spain.
In consideration of Joyce’s wishes there will be no memorial services held at this time. Private burial of the cremated remains will be held at a later date in the Prairie Cemetery in Fennimore.
