Irene Sweeney

Irene K. Sweeney, age 75 of Fennimore, died on Friday evening, Feb. 14, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque, IA. Irene was born on Dec. 29, 1938 in Dodgeville, WI the daughter of Eugene and Lenice (Stippich) Lomas.  She married Nikkie Sweeney on May 27, 1958 in Fennimore, WI.

Following graduation from Fennimore High School, Irene stayed home to raise her family.  She was a very devoted mother and grandmother who supported her children and grandchildren in all of their activities.  Irene enjoyed her cat Cocco, feeding the songbirds outside her apartment, and baking special treats, such as cupcakes and ginger crème cookies for family and friends.  In her younger years, she liked spending time in the outdoors hunting, fishing, and camping in northern Wisconsin.  Irene also liked taking part in classic car cruises and loved the great conversations shared over a cup of coffee.  She was an avid fan of old western movies, JFK, the Wisconsin Badger football and basketball teams and the New York Yankees. Irene was a great role model for her children and grandchildren and her memories will forever be cherished.

Irene is survived by her four children; Cindy (Mark) Pinch of Livingston, Rick (Debbie) Sweeney of Monroe Center, IL, Bill (Susan Cordts) Sweeney of Mt. Hope, and Nicole (Gary) Wetter of Stitzer, five grandchildren; Jessica and Barby Sweeney, and Candace, Cortney, and Hailee Wetter, grand dog Festus, two sisters; Janet (Larry) Garside of Shawano, WI, and Mary Ann (Jack) Bukoski of Byron, IL, and many special nieces and nephews.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday evening, Feb 18, 2014 at the Larson Family Funeral Home in Fennimore with burial of the cremated remains to be held at a later date.  Rev. Duane Andrus of the Fennimore United Methodist Church will be officiating. A visitation will be held from 3:00 P.M. until the time of service at Larson Family Funeral home on Tuesday evening.
