Janet R. Carl

FENNIMORE/SCOTTSDALE, AZ - Janet R. Carl, age 63, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday May 4, 2024, at Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster. She was born on January 27, 1961, in Lancaster; the daughter and eleventh child of Leonard and Marian (Franzen) Carl.

Janet graduated from Fennimore High School in 1979 and then attended UW-Platteville, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and journalism.  There too, she made lifelong friends. She loved writing and was a published journalist for the Wisconsin State Journal. Janet’s environmental career began in Green Bay where she was a lobbyist for Fort Howard Paper company. It was there that Janet realized her passion as an environmental attorney.  She holds a doctorate in jurisprudence from University of Texas – Austin.

After law school, Janet worked in Houston, TX then St. Louis, MO before settling in Scottsdale, AZ. Janet built a life in Arizona with her daughter, Arianna. She was a devoted member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Scottsdale. After retiring from her career as an environmental attorney, Janet returned to Fennimore to live near family with whom she loved spending time. She had a generous heart and looked for ways to give back to her community. She had worked hard and was proud that she had the means for charitable giving.  She enjoyed gifting to organizations that were close to her heart as much as they enjoyed receiving.

Janet had a love for the outdoors, especially autumn in the Midwest. She loved spending time in nature enjoying the changing colors of the trees. She had a quick wit and wonderful sense of humor with one-liners that would make you bust out laughing. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Janet is survived by her beloved daughter Arianna Perkins; siblings: Beverly Carl of Fennimore, Mike (Cindy) Carl of Stitzer, sister-in-law Chris Carl of Fennimore, Colleen Carl of Jefferson City, MO, Barbara (Ron) Larson of Montfort, Marvin (Tina) Carl of Fennimore, Rita (Vince) Lease of Fennimore, Mitch (Darlene) Carl of Stitzer, and Michele Carl of Masonville, CO; along with many special nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Janet was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Malcolm and Marlin Carl; sister, LaVonne Carl; three nephews: Nicholas Carl, Tom Gabaldon, and David Faulkner; and niece, Michelle Carl.
