Gregory John Cook, age 67, of Avoca passed away on Friday morning December 18, 2020 at his residence. He was born on January 4, 1953 in Dodgeville the son of Roscoe and Bernadine (Straka) Cook. Greg married Louann O’Konek on May 1, 1976 and adopted her daughter, Lisa Marie. Greg was later united in marriage to Beth DeJong on June 26, 2004.
After graduating from high school, Greg took over the family farm in the early 1980’s. He was very passionate about farming, but made a decision to sell the farm in the early 1990’s. He learned to drive semi for a fertilizer plant in Edmund, and then worked for Mueller Implement in Dodgeville. Greg later drove for Richgels Milk Service in Highland and QLF in Dodgeville. He continued driving semi for Trelay Seed and later known as Rural Route 1 of Livingston until retiring in 2015. After his marriage to Beth, they moved from Montfort to acreage in the rural Highland/Avoca area. Greg reintroduced himself to a favorite pastime, fishing. He enjoyed fishing the Wisconsin River and caught many species large and small. He and Beth were so blessed to be able to fish, almost everyday, together this past summer. Greg was a devoted father, grandfather, and an avid deer hunter. He was passionate about his family and loved sharing time together.
Greg is survived by his beloved wife Beth of Avoca, his four children; Lisa Marie Stampfli (Ron Hoffman) of Fitchburg, Lana Jo (Peter) Swenson of Monticello, Laura Ann (Bradley) Wetzel of Livingston, and Jason John (Samantha Staskal) Cook of Platteville, nine grandchildren, three sisters; Linda (Al) Lorenz of Madison, Rita (John) Rice of Cottage Grove, and Brenda (Rich) Williams of Rewey, and his brother Gerard Cook of Montfort along with several special nieces and nephews.
Greg was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister and brother-in-law Patricia and Gerald Berg.
