
Soldiers Grove - Evelyn A. Rundle, age 103, of Soldiers Grove and formerly of Madison, died on Tuesday morning Sept. 3, 2013 at Sannes Skogdalen Heim Nursing Home in Soldiers Grove.
Evelyn was born on July 30, 1910 on the family farm in Hickory Grove Twsp., Grant Co., WI the daughter of Gunder and Karen (Tollefson) Gunderson. She married La Verne Rundle in July of 1932 in Galena, IL. After being married, Evelyn and La Verne owned and operated the Shady Dell Cheese Factory in Mt. Ida before purchasing a cheese factory and moving to Soldiers Grove in 1943. They moved back to Hickory Grove Township in 1951 where they farmed in addition to making cheese at two different local factories. Both La Verne and Evelyn where licensed cheese makers and Evelyn was one of the first women to earn a cheese-making license in the state. In 1961, Evelyn and La Verne moved to Madison where they raised a family and Evelyn enjoyed taking care of children in her home. She later moved to Soldiers Grove in 2006 where she lived with her grand-daughter before entering the nursing home at the age of 101. Evelyn was a very caring person who loved to cook and bake for her family and friends. She also enjoyed watching baseball, bowling, knitting, and crocheting lap throws, which she donated to local nursing homes and cancer patients.
Evelyn is survived by her two sons; Ernie Rundle of Soldiers Grove, and Dwaine (Sandra) Rundle of Madison, five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband La Verne on June 5, 1982, sisters; Agnes Wimmer and Evangeline Nickel, brothers; Egnar, Emil, Marcus, Donald, Gayhart, Sanford, and Harold Gunderson, and a daughter-in-law Virginia Rundle.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday morning Sept. 7, 2013 at the Castle Rock Lutheran Church in Hickory Grove Twsp., Grant Co., WI with burial to follow in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held from 5-7:00 P.M. on Friday evening Sept 6, 2013 at the Larson Family Funeral Home in Fennimore and from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at the church on Saturday morning.
