Montfort – Doris M. Vavricka, age 80 of Montfort, died on Monday morning Dec. 2, 2013 at Bloomfield Manor in rural Dodgeville. Doris was born on Feb. 13, 1933 in Prairie du Chien the daughter of Samuel and Ada (Fry) Crawford. She was united in marriage to Edward Vavricka on Sept. 30, 1950 in Prairie du Chien.
Doris and Edward farmed outside Montfort all their lives. The farm has been in the family for 100 years and she was a very hard worker who never left a task undone. Doris enjoyed working next to her husband during the day and enjoying each other’s company at night. She liked to bowl, play cards and Scrabble, collect and sell antiques, and loved a great day of fishing with her family. Doris had an unconditional love for her family, neighbors and friends. She also enjoyed hosting an annual 4th of July celebration with family and neighbors and looked forward to celebrating Christmas. She was a member of the Montfort United Methodist Church where she served on various committees, along with teaching Sunday school. Her strong personality and loving nature will truly be missed.
Doris is survived by her beloved husband of 63 years; Edward Vavricka of Montfort, two children; Terry (Sue) Vavricka of Cobb, and Doug (Sue) Vavricka of Livingston, four grandchildren; T.J. (Cassie) Vavricka of Montfort, Jamie Vavricka of Dodgeville, Erika (Chris) Aultman of Montfort, and Loren (Janda) Vavricka of Grafton, two step-grandchildren; Justin (Fiancé Jenny Napp) Moon of Mt. Hope, and Melanie (Mark) Cuper of Clear Lake, nine great grandchildren and two step-great grandchildren. She is also survived by two sister-in-laws; LaVerna Crawford of Oklahoma, and Marilyn (Donald) Winkers of Montfort, step-brother & sister-in-laws; Mike (Alana) Vavricka, and Sue (Doug) Fleming both of Fennimore, along with several nieces and nephews.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, four siblings; Marcella (Keith) Solman, Loren Crawford, Evalou Valley, and Erma (Norton) Walker.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday Dec. 5, 2013 at the Soman-Larson Funeral Home in Montfort with burial to follow in the Eden Cemetery, Eden Twsp., Iowa Co., WI. Pastor Gary Benzschawel of the Montfort United Methodist Church will be officiating. A visitation will be held from 4-7:00 P.M. on Wednesday evening Dec. 4, 2013 at the Soman-Larson Funeral Home and from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service on Thursday morning. In lieu of plants and flowers a memorial fund is being established in loving memory of Doris M. Vavricka.
