Donald K. Schwer

Fennimore, WI – Donald K. Schwer, age 82 of Fennimore passed away on Tuesday Jan. 22, 2013 at Meriter Hospital in Madison.  Donald was born on May 8, 1930 in Fennimore Township the son on William and Orilla (Smith) Schwer.

Donald graduated from Fennimore High School and married the love of his life, Mary Loy on Feb 14, 1949. They farmed his family farm in Fennimore Township until purchasing it in 1961 and continued farming until 1992. In 1989, after semi-retiring, Donald and Mary spent their winters in Eastpoint, FL through 2008.  Donald was a founding member of the Fennimore Community Theatre in the 1940’s, a 4-H Leader, a member of the Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star, and the Stitzer United Methodist Church. He also enjoyed flying his Cessna airplane, which he owned with good friend Bob Bray, participating with the county and community fair’s, and making Christmas caramels for his family and friends. He became a state award-winning artist and used his creativity in the designing of his homes in Fennimore and Florida. Donald’s true passions were his devotion to his wife, children, grandchildren and art. He will be deeply missed by all his family, friends, and community.

Donald is survived by his loving wife Mary of Fennimore, three children; Andrea McKenzie of Madison, Avery (Marilyn) Schwer of Omaha, NE, Samuel (Jill) Schwer of Fennimore, five grandchildren; Eliot Schwer, Ryan Schwer, Katrina (James) Edge, Rebecca Schwer, Everett Schwer, and a sister; Joyce Drolsum of Minneapolis, MN.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Maxine Tall, and a brother William “Bill” W. Schwer.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday Jan. 26, 2013 at the Stitzer United Methodist Church in Stitzer, WI with burial to follow in the Prairie Cemetery in Fennimore.  Friends may call from 4-8:00 P.M. on Friday Jan. 25, 2013 at the Larson Family Funeral Home in Fennimore where a Masonic Service will be held at 8:00 P.M. Friday evening. Friends may also call from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at the church on Saturday morning.
