John R. Smith, age 88, of Woodman, WI passed away on Tuesday April 5, 2022, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in LaCrosse as the result of a motor vehicle accident on March 24, 2022. He was born on October 2, 1933, in Blue Rapids, KS the son of John and Doris (Paxton) Smith. John was united in marriage to Deloris Kane on March 14, 1955, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA.
John moved to the area when he was nine years old and attended school in Linden. He began driving truck at a young age and continued his passion throughout his life. John worked for various companies over the years until his retirement. He enjoyed music and in his younger years, John was a drummer in his band. He also liked dancing and going fishing.
John is survived by his wife of 67 years Deloris of Woodman, son Allen Smith of West Union, IA, grandson Dennis Smith of Texas, two great grandchildren: Jacob and Jordan Smith, along with two nephews: Gary (Cheryl) Richmond of Muscoda, and Gregory (Wanda) Bowles of Monticello.
John was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather Peter “Arnold” Peterson, and sister Betty Jean Richmond.
A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday April 22, 2022 at the Larson Family Funeral Home in Fennimore with burial to follow in the Prairie Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at the funeral home on Friday morning.
