Paul “Larry” Wolenec, age 83, of Montfort, WI passed away at home on Friday, February 11, 2022. Larry was born on March 6, 1938, to Stanley and Martha (Tomas) Wolenec. He graduated from Montfort High School and at the age of 17 volunteered to serve in the US Army, where he was stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska. On February 28, 1959, he married Jo Ann Schambow in Platteville. He and Jo Ann lived for 60+ years of their married life on a farm north of Montfort. He loved spending time behind the wheel of a tractor working the land, hunting, fishing, and enjoying the outdoors. His 4-wheeler rarely sat idle as he enjoyed getting the cattle, checking crops, or a leisurely drive through the woods looking for deer or squirrels. He enjoyed playing cards, visiting with family and friends, traveling with Jo Ann, taking in shows at Fireside Theatre, and spending time with his dog Mack. He was a member of the Highland Presbyterian Church in Highland.
Larry is survived by his four children: Kelly (Lewis) Lee of Evansville, Kathy (Dave) Alcott of Montfort, Tina (Jon) Rundle of Richland Center, and Terry (Gena) Wolenec of Montfort. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Danielle (Peyton) Paquin of Mukwonago, Amy Alcott of Montfort, Emily Alcott of Madison, Heidi (Josh) Schmoll of Deerbrook, John (Whitney) Rundle of Lena, WI, Miranda (Blake) Humphrey of Janesville, and Theadora (Elliot Endres) Jorgensen of Portland, OR; six great-grandchildren: Mason, Sawyer, Brady, Jessa, Henry, Monroe, plus one more due in April; five sisters-in-law: Marlys Wolenec of Dodgeville, Betty (Kenneth) Zitka of Troy, IL, Mary (Michael) Prem of Franklin, Roberta (Robert) Stanley of Brookfield, and Pam Schambow of Hales Corners; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Jo Ann of 62 years on September 9, 2021; two brothers: Gene Wolenec and Robert Wolenec; sisters-in-law Caroline Wolenec, Elsie Zoha, Carol Franzen, and Linda Schambow; and brothers-in-law Milo Zoha and Paul Schambow.
Due to COVID, a private graveside service is being planned at the Eden Cemetery rural Cobb, WI. A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date for both Larry and Jo Ann.
The family would like to extend a special note of thanks and appreciation to the Hospice and Upland Hills Home Health workers for their wonderful care and compassion. A special thanks also to the employees and residents at Stonefield who have become a family to him the past two years.
A memorial fund is being established in the loving memory of Paul “Larry” Wolenec. Memorials may be sent to the Soman-Larson Funeral Home at 203 W. Grant Street, Montfort, WI 53569.
