Leonard L. Ward, age 94, of Boscobel, WI passed away on Saturday evening July 31, 2021 at his residence. He was born on August 11, 1926 in Crawford County the son of Myrtle (Hudson) and Maurice Ward. Leonard was united in marriage to Odessa Pettit on December 6, 1948. They were blessed with three sons. She preceded him in death on June 15, 2002. He married Marian Jones on November 16, 2002.
Leonard was a WWII vet. He served in the Army for one year and 22 days in Germany. Leonard worked for the City of Boscobel, over 35 years, in the electric department and wastewater treatment plant. He was known for cutting trees for people. Leonard was most known for his love of horses. He was a horseman for many years. He was seen in parades with his teams of black horses. He included his family in all of his horse adventures, even putting horses in the backseat of his car. Leonard’s most loved horse activity was going to the chuck wagon races in Nashua, Iowa.
Leonard is survived by his wife Marian, two sons, Keith (Sandra) Ward and Tim Ward, daughter-in-law Valerie Ward; eight grandchildren Tina (Ed) Stimpson, Kevin (Susan) Ward, Travis (Melissa) Ward, Wendy (Seth) Brody, Stacy (Eric) Swatek, Amy (Gill) Brewer, Christopher (Elizabeth) Ward, Jacob (Anna) Ward; 16 great-grandchildren (with one on the way), one great-great grandson; niece Donna Blanchard, and Marian’s children, Michael (Vickie) Jones, Kevin (Debra) Jones, and Dawn Jones and their families. He is also survived by special friends, Dave and Dottie Oakes, Dawn Marie Holmes and Rose Shuck.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Odessa, son Gene Ward, sister Lillian Rands, brother Robert Ward (who he took care of for 50 years), and grandson Lucas Ward.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday August 5, 2021 at the Larson Family Funeral Home in Fennimore with food and fellowship to immediately follow at the Cottonwood rural Fennimore. Burial will follow in the Boscobel Cemetery in Boscobel, WI with Military Honors. Visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service at the funeral home on Thursday morning. In lieu of plants and flowers, send memorials to the Boscobel Fire Department or the Boscobel Rescue Squad.
