Donald E. Winkers

Donald E. Winkers, age 90, of Montfort, WI passed away on Sunday November 1, 2020 at the Divine Rehabilitation and Nursing Services in Fennimore. He was born on January 27, 1930 at home in Eden Township Iowa County, Wisconsin. He was united in marriage to Marilyn Vavricka on July 8, 1950 at the Montfort United Methodist Church.

Donald attended Montfort Grade School and graduated from Montfort High School in 1948. He hauled milk for the Sunnyside Cheese Factory and helped make cheese for several years. Don became a farmer for 42 wonderful years. He was sure to always find time for his family, playing ball, roller skating or flying an airplane. He got his pilots license at Lone Rock and enjoyed several years of flying. He and Marilyn loved their life together. They liked going dancing and playing cards with friends. The simple pleasure in life made Don a very happy. He loved helping his neighbors, and often was turned to in the neighborhood for advise or to help fix their machinery. Don loved his pets, especially his Boston Terriers. He believed in an honest days work and made sure they took time to sit at the table and eat as a family.  

Donald is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years; Marilyn of Montfort, two children; Richard (Corinne) Winkers of Menasha, and Vicky (Larry) DeBuhr of Platteville, three grandchildren; Donald Earl (Jamye) Winkers, Chris DeBuhr, Brian (Sandy) DeBuhr, granddaughter-in-law Nicole Winkers, nine great-grandchildren; Faith, Nolen, and Kaydince Tristan, Devilan, Huddsan Winkers and Allison, Evan and Colton DeBuhr, brother Bob (Donna) Winkers of Bloomington and sister-in-law Judy Winkers of Onalaska, along with several special nieces and nephews.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents, brother Jim Winkers, two twin sisters; Kathryn Kmit and Kathleen Winkers and his grandson Robert Winkers.

A private funeral service for family will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday November 7, 2020 at the Soman-Larson Funeral Home in Montfort with burial to follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Montfort. Visitation for family will beheld from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at the funeral home on Saturday morning.
