Joan V. Goldsmith, age 80, of Cobb, WI, passed away on Thursday May 24, 2018 at Upland Hills Nursing and Rehab Center in Dodgeville. She was born on June 5, 1937 in St. Cloud, MN the daughter of Vernon and Virgil (Jenson) Anderson.
Growing up Joan was involved in 4-H with her mother being a 4-H leader. Her high school years were spent riding and caring for her two horses. Joan and her father belonged to two different Saddle Clubs doing pole weaving, barrel racing, trail riding and square dancing on horseback.
Joan graduated from Becker High School in Minnesota in 1955. She moved to Minneapolis and worked as an office worker. While in Minneapolis, Joan met her beloved husband. She was united in marriage to Ken Goldsmith on August 15, 1959. They moved to River Falls and she worked in a bank while Ken finished his college education. The joy in her life was her two sons. Joan was a Sunday School teacher for many years, Scout Den mother leader.
At 50 years of age, Joan enrolled at the Southwest Technical College in Fennimore and received her CNA certificate. The most meaningfully job was caring and helping the residence of the nursing home. Her retirement years were being involved with Upland Hill’s volunteering for the gift shop, belonging to the Cobb Library book club, coffee hour and the United Methodist Women’s church group. Riding her bicycle and walking with Ken and friends during the summer.
Joan is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Ken of Cobb, two sons, Dwight (Mary) Goldsmith of Thorntown, IN, Galen (Hope) Goldsmith and two grandsons, Brett and Henry Goldsmith all of Tucson, AZ.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents Vernon and Virgil Anderson, brother William and his wife Helen Anderson and all her aunts and uncles.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday June 2, 2018 at the Cobb United Methodist Church with visitation from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at the church on Saturday morning. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Monday June 4, 2018 at Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Spooner, WI. The Soman-Larson Funeral Home of Montfort is assisting the family.
