Eleanor E. Bauman

Eleanor E. Bauman, age 94, of Onalaska, WI died on Saturday May 26, 2018 at the Onalaska Care Center. She was born Jan. 13, 1924, in rural Fennimore to August and Hilda (Ruchti) Kreul. Eleanor graduated from Fennimore High School in 1942. She married Merle Bauman on Feb. 2, 1945

Eleanor went to work after graduation at the Savanna Army Depot in Savanna, IL. After working there for 32 years, she retired in 1979. Eleanor and Merle farmed in the Elizabeth, IL area until purchasing a home and moving to Stockton, IL in 1996. They took many bus tours all over the United States and visited most of the states. Merle died on Feb. 14, 2008. Eleanor resided in Stockton until May 21, 2010, when she decided to move to Onalaska to live with her niece and husband, Linda and Dennis Sobkowiak. Eleanor joined St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and became active in the Bible study and met many new friends. She enjoyed going to the Thursday morning old people’s breakfast. Eleanor was known for the many cross-stitch projects she did for all her friends. She also enjoyed reading, crocheting and spending time with her niece and nephews and their families.

Eleanor is survived by her niece and husband, Linda and Dennis Sobkowiak, Onalaska, nephew and wife, Mark and Marty (Jendrek) Thompson, West Chester, OH, nephew and wife Tom and Suzanne Kreul, Altoona, WI (daughters Laura and Lisa), niece and family, Wendy Jo Wilde and Chris Wagner and their daughter Carlee Jo Wagner, Holmen, WI, nephew and family Bill and Amy Wilde and their childeren Austin, Sierra and Ashley, Mukwonago, WI, niece and husband, Stephanie and Chris Brown, Waynesville, OH.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, husband Merle, infant son Edward and sisters Dorothy Schmiedlin and Shirley Kreul.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Sunday afternoon June 3, 2018 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Onalaska. Visitation will be held from 12:00 P.M. until the time on service at the church on Sunday. Private family burial will be held at a later date at the Prairie Cemetery in Fennimore. The Larson Family Funeral Home of Fennimore is assisting the family.
