Fennimore, WI-Gerald “Jerry” D. Munns, age 100, died on Dec. 16, 2016 at the Fennimore Good Samaritan Society. He was born on Aug. 13, 1916 the son of Wilson and Orva (Simons) Munns. Jerry was united in marriage to Lucille Fritsch on Dec. 14, 1937.
From 1936 until 1943, Jerry delivered ice, milk, and lime gravel until farming for 15 years. Getting out of farming, he was employed by Fennimore Co-op for 20 years working at the service station and doing tire repair. As the business grew, so did his responsibilities. He also managed the gas & heating dept., delivered propane and also worked as a furnace installer along with repair. After his retirement, He worked part time at Irish Hardware for 6 years. Jerry was a very active member of the St. Peter Lutheran Church, Charter member and past President of the Fennimore Railroad Historical Society for 17 years and President for 12 years, part of the Fennimore City Council for 12 years and President for 10 years, 4-H leader for 17 years, Fennimore Lions Club and President for 1, Sons of Fennimore, Charter FFA member in 1929, and was recognized as “Citizen of Year” in 1994. Jerry truly believed in dedicating his life to this wonderful community and led by example.
Jerry is survived by his four children; Beverly (Virgil) White of Fennimore, Geraldine “Geri” Keene of Madison, Dennis Munns of North Port, FL, Roger (Diane) Munns of Fort Atkinson, eight grandchildren; Randal (Diane Clark) White, Bernie White, Fred (Amy) White, Diane (Bill) Meadowcroft, Doug (Michelle) Keene, Scott (Roxanne) Munns, Christopher (Caron) Munns, and Kelly (Eric) Peloquin, 16 great grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren, sister June Moen-Rewey of Dodgeville, sister-in-laws; Bette Munns of Fennimore, Beaulamae (Darrell) Tomas and Lorraine Fritsch both of Cobb, brother-in-law Dwayne (Betty) Fritsch of Marshall along with several special nieces and nephews.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lucille on May 14, 1987, three brothers; Virgil, Richard and Harold Munns, sister Blanche Kolaski.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday Dec. 20, 2016 at the St. Peter Lutheran Church in Fennimore with burial to follow in the Prairie Cemetery, Fennimore. Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until time of service at the church on Tuesday morning. The Larson Family Funeral Home in Fennimore is assisting the family.
