MOUNT IDA - Garald V. Rossing peacefully passed into eternal life at his home on April 30, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and love. He was born on March 17, 1930, in the town of Highland, to Oren & Ruth (Fingerson) Rossing, graduated from Fennimore High School in 1948 and served time in the US Navy. On June 1, 1951, he married Marian Volenec and they made their home in the Green River valley outside of Fennimore. Together they owned and operated Rossing Construction for decades.
Garald lived a life full of adventure and purpose. He was a proud veteran of the US Navy, an accomplished softball player and coach, (2016 Hall of Fame Inductee), and an avid sports fan. He had a tremendous love of family & friends, and had a great love of hunting, fishing, dancing, card playing, and camping outdoors. One of his greatest joys was watching his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren compete in sports and dancing. He loved hearing their hunting stories and seeing the photos of their success.
Garald is survived by his children: Randy (Roseann), Kim (Shirley), Ruth (Steve) Robertson, and Todd (Sarah) Rossing. He is further survived by his 11 grandchildren: Eric (Courtney) Mallon, Evan (Varvara) Rossing, Alison (Joe) Eigenberger, Jacquelyn (Preston) Riemenapp, Cassie (JE) Hoffmann, Curt Rossing (Kendall Smith), Keith Kelley, Scott (Kassy) Kelley, Joel Rossing (Alicia Wendler), Ethan (Katie) Rossing & Ashton Rossing (Justin Starkey); and 12 great-grandchildren: Sydney & Larkyn Hoffmann, Buck & Bo Loretta Rossing, Jaden, Josie, Jordyn and Jaxon Mallon, Greyson and Gryffin Eigenberger, and Dutton & Aurora Riemenapp. Garald is further survived by his sister-in-law, Shirley Baxter, numerous nieces & nephews, friends and other relatives.
Garald was predeceased by his wife of 74 years, Marian (Volenec) Rossing; daughter Sheri; his parents; siblings: Loren (Eleanor) Rossing, Curt (Lenys) Rossing, Marcella (Barney/Ray) Stenner and Viola (Frederick/Fritz) Stich; sisters and brothers-in-law: Irene (Virgil) Lund, Dean (Dorothy) Volenec, Merlin (Bud) (Mary Ann) (Merna) Volenec, Carol (Glenn) Fry; brother-in-law Gary Baxter, and other relatives.
