Paul D. Peterson

PLATTEVILLE – Paul D. Peterson, age 72, passed away on February 6, 2026, Agrace Hospice, Madison WI, after a short battle with cancer.

Paul was born on July 12, 1953, to Vernon D. & Evelyn A. Peterson.  Paul shared his birthday with his mother, Evelyn, which was a special bond they shared throughout their lives.

Paul graduated from Platteville High School in 1971. He was married to Luann Bendorf, formerly Burr, and had two daughters, Leann Handel and Lynn Wolf.

Paul worked at WP&L in Cassville WI for many years, where he was in an apprenticeship program.  He later moved to the east coast for a job as chief mechanical engineer/power plant consultant.  A lot of long-lasting memories were made when his daughters visited him during their summer vacations out east.

He loved to ride his 1963 Harley-Davidson panhead back in the day.  He was also an avid guitar and banjo player.  He remained close with his bandmates and over the years they would get together to play at local establishments.   He would tell his daughters stories about his bands back in his younger years, named Candy Store Conspiracy and Stonefield River Band.  A lot of music was enjoyed by his family at the Hitchin’ Post in Stitzer WI.

Paul moved back to Lancaster and started Peterson Heating, Cooling & Home Maintenance working for many years until retirement.

Paul enjoyed spending time with his kids, grandkids and great grandkids, socializing with his many friends at Nick’s in Platteville, watching movies, and especially the Green Bay Packers & Buffalo Bills.

He is survived by his two daughters, Leann Handel (Archie Reynolds), Cassville WI and Lynn Wolf (Phil Freymiller), Richland Center WI, his son Koalton Peterson, grandchildren Jordan and Jenna Wolf (Tyler Millin), Kennedy Churchill (Logan), and great-grandchildren Logan Jr. and Taytem Churchill.  Paul is also survived by brother David Peterson and sister Diane Arnieri.

Paul’s family would like to extend their deepest thanks to the staff at UW Madison Hospital and Agrace Hospice, Madison, for taking such good care of him during this time.

His daughters would also like to thank his closest friends, Mick, Cruz, Jim Bob, Quail, Tim N, Tommy, Jerry, Donald, Bob, and many more, for having so much respect and love for our dad.
