Rose Anne Haufler

MONTFORT - Rose Anne Haufler, passed away peacefully on Friday January 17, 2025, at Springbrook Retirement Community of Onalaska, at the age of 92. Rose Anne was born the youngest of eight children to Edward and Rose (Clark) Trendel on November 8, 1932. She liked to mention, it was the day Franklin D. Roosevelt was elected President.

Growing up a “tomboy” on a small farm in rural Kansas, she preferred being outside as much as possible. Rose Anne, as with most farm kids of the day, was involved in 4-H. She showed beef cattle, winning many ribbons, even showing two calves at the Kansas City Royal in 1947.

At age 18, she married her high school sweetheart, Theron Haufler. They enjoyed 61 years of marriage before Theron’s passing in September of 2012. Early in their marriage, Rose Anne worked as a bookkeeper, helping to pay Theron’s way through veterinary school at Kansas State University. It was in Manhattan, KS that their two daughters, Aleshia and Tamra joined the family. After Theron completed college, in June of 1957, the couple moved their small family to Wisconsin, loving the rolling hills, green pastures and herds and herds of dairy, to start a veterinary practice in Fennimore. Rose Anne scheduled vet calls and kept the books for the clinic until the family grew larger. Sons Douglas and Darrel, arriving in 1962 and 1965, completed the family.

Rose Anne was involved in many organizations over the years including Homemaker’s Club and the Ladies Auxiliary at St. Peter Lutheran Church of which the family were long time members.

When the children were older, Rose Anne took bookkeeping and computer classes at Southwest Tech. She worked for several years as CESA and Land’s End. Rose Anne also drove for ADRC taking people to doctor appointments in Dubuque and Madison.

Always a quilter and sewer as her mother before her, Rose Anne purchased a long arm quilting machine, one of the first in the county, and started a business. She quilted several hundred quilts over the years. In addition to quilting, Rose Anne enjoyed gardening, canning, growing flowers and bird watching, especially hummingbirds with feeders in abundance.

Rose Anne is survived by her four children: Aleshia Haley of Platteville, Tamra (Kirk) Hull of Onalaska, Douglas (Diane) Haufler of Cassville, and Darrel (Deborah) Haufler of Wake Forest, NC; brother and sister-in-law Delmar and JoEllen Haufler of Burlingame, KS; eight grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

Rose Anne was preceded in death by her parents Ed and Rose Trendel; husband, Theron; grandson Kristopher Kreul; son-in-law Thomas Haley; and her brothers, sisters, and sisters in-law.

The family requests memorials be directed to a charity of choice in loving memory of Rose Anne Haufler.
