FENNIMORE - Richard “Dick” P. Champion, age 74, passed away on Tuesday morning May 21, 2024, at his residence in Fennimore. He was born on March 4, 1950; the son of Arnold and Anita (Wurm) Champion. Dick was united in marriage to Paula Curley on October 18, 1986, in Lancaster.
Dick graduated from Benton High School in 1968. He worked various jobs over the years including Kowalski Kieler for 12 years and Cabela’s for 7 years. Dick attended Southwest Tech where he received two degrees in small appliance repair and small engine repair. He was a skilled handy man and could fix just about any small appliance or small engine that was given to him. Dick and Paula had a love for motorcycles and for 20 years, they could be found cruising the streets of Fennimore dressed as Santa and Mrs. Claus. They would ride around, even on snowy days, and hand out candy and treats to the children and parents on the streets. Dick was also a member of ABATE (A Brotherhood Against Totalitarian Enactments) for 12 years, which is a motorcyclist rights and safety organization. Dick was skilled in repairing his own motorcycles, cars, and trucks. There was always a project going on in his large home garage. He and Paula enjoyed spending time outside. They especially enjoyed their time spent camping with family and friends.
Dick is survived by his wife Paula, six children: Ronny (Barry) Buehr, Brian Champion, Craig (Melissa) Edge, Karen Edge, Jason (Tammy Jo) Champion, and Carie (Ryan) Brandon, 11 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; along with his brother, Robert (Gail) Champion; and sister, Ruth Donar. Dick was preceded in death by his parents Arnold and Anita Champion; two brothers, Ronald and Albert Champion; and mother in-law, June Curley.
