Stitzer, WI - Nikki J. Whitaker, age 67, passed away on Monday, May 13, 2024, at Meriter Hospital in Madison, WI. She was born on August 8, 1956, the daughter of Leslie “Chick” and Hazel (Martin) Klais. She was united in marriage to William “Bill” Whitaker on June 28, 1987, and although they later separated amicably, Bill remained her close companion until his passing.
Nikki graduated from Fennimore High School, where she excelled in music and loved being part of the chorus groups and high school plays. After high school, she entered the workforce and worked for many years at Rayovac in Fennimore. Following a corporate change, Nikki attended Southwest Technical College in Fennimore and earned her accounting degree. She then worked in the accounting department at Ashley Furniture in Platteville.
In her younger years, Nikki's vocals and passion for music were on full display as a singer for the band “Wildfire.” She cherished those years, performing throughout the tri-county area. As the years went by, she loved raising her daughter Sydney and enjoyed watching her in all her school endeavors, especially her music performances.
Nikki also loved spending time relaxing, boating, and socializing at her cabin in Bagley. Nikki enjoyed being at home with her three cats and spending time with family and friends. She will be remembered for her dedication to her family, especially the care she provided for her mother and father, along with her quiet and always charming personality.
Nikki is survived by her daughter Sydney Whitaker of Madison; her brother, Michael Klais of Las Vegas, NV; her nephew, Chad Klais; and great-nephews, Dillion and Colton Klais.
She was preceded in death by her parents, “Chick” and Hazel Klais, and her companion and ex-husband Bill Whitaker.
