Fennimore, WI - Gregory D. Fry (fondly known as Bear), age 72, of Fennimore, passed away on Thursday, January 19, 2023. Greg was born on December 15, 1950, in Fennimore, the son of Kenneth and Arlene (Shepherd) Fry. He was united in marriage to Kristine Vondra on September 29, 1979, in Belmont and together they had three children.
Greg was proud to be a senior technical engineer for Amcor. He made many great friends working at Amcor’s different plants, formerly Milprint and Pechiney Plastic Packaging (others).
After retiring, he took on a new adventure at Grab A Cone (Kris and Greg’s Ice Cream Shop in Montfort, WI), baking a variety of homemade breads, where he earned a new moniker, ‘The Banana Bread Guy’.
Two of his passions included travel and woodworking. He traveled to Alaska, New Zealand, and Iceland, but his bucket-list trip was his trip to Africa. He loved showing the multitude of photos he took during his African adventure. Greg had his own woodworking shop where he built beautiful furniture and projects for friends and family.
He loved supporting his community. He was a volunteer firefighter in Fennimore for 14 years and served in various political positions for the City of Fennimore and Grant County.
As a Fennimore graduate (Class of 1969) and athlete, Greg loved supporting Fennimore athletics and other activities. As an adult, he loved playing in the local fast-pitch softball league. He hated to miss a football game from Fennimore’s sidelines. He loved supporting his kids and grandkids in all activities at Fennimore.
Above all, Greg loved his family. He was always excited to spend time with his wife, three children, and seven grandchildren. His quick-witted commentary always brought a smile to their faces. He shared his knowledge and sense of humor with both friends and family.
Greg is survived by his wife Kristine, children Kimberly Pope, Gabriel (Heather) Fry and Matthew (Ingrid) Fry, all of Fennimore; grandchildren Gabriela, Griffin, Emma, Emerson, Grendall, Grayson and Bronson; brothers Gary (Sue) Fry of Oregon, WI and Jeff (Anita) Fry of Warren, IL; sister Debra Fry of Shullsburg, WI; in-laws Brian (Carolyn) Vondra, Mary Hultman, Jim (Holly) Vondra, Laura (Arty) Moyer, Richard Hardyman, Leslie Hammond and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Arlene Fry; father and mother-in-law Kenneth and Marcene Vondra, sister-in-law Patricia Fry, brother-in-law Kevin Vondra, and sister-in-law Janet Hardyman.
Visitation
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at the Fennimore United Methodist Church on Saturday January 28, 2023.
Funeral Services
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday afternoon, with food and fellowship to immediately follow in the church hall.
Burial Services
Private family burial will be held at the Prairie Cemetery in Fennimore.
