William A. Brandt

Fennimore – William A. Brandt, age 93, of Fennimore, died on Sunday evening May 29, 2016 at Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster. William was born on Jan. 29, 1923 in Lancaster, WI, the son of William J. and Edith (Austin) Brandt. He married Joyce Phillips on Oct. 11, 1947 in Fennimore.

Following graduation from Fennimore High School in 1941, Bill volunteered for the US Military serving as a Supply Sergeant during WWII. In 1949, after eight years of service, Bill returned home to Fennimore where he would later take over the family farm in 1951. Bill farmed full time until turning daily operations over to his son in 1980. Bill had a passion for conservation and believed in being a steward of the land. He was an active member of the Prairie Enthusiasts of Southwest Wisconsin and enjoyed harvesting prairie grass seed. Bill also enjoyed photography and researching family history.

Bill is survived by his two children, George (Ann) Brandt of Fennimore, and Edith Brandt and her husband Scott Ruetten of De Pere, WI, granddaughter Katrina Ruetten of De Pere, brother Robert (Bette) Brandt of Dayton, OH, sister Arlene McHatton of El Paso, TX and many nieces and nephews.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, wife Joyce on Feb. 15, 2014, sisters Eleanor (Pat) Audetat and Katherine (Bob) Spain, brother-in-law Tom McHatton and sister-in-law Jeanette Brandt.

In consideration of Bill’s wishes there will be no memorial services held at this time. Private burial of the cremated remains will be held at a later date in the Prairie Cemetery in Fennimore. The Larson Family Funeral Home of Fennimore is assisting the family
