Vivian J. Alcott

Vivian Alcott (1)Vivian Julia Alcott (Eck), 88, of Montfort passed away on February 17, 2016, at the Good Samaritan Center in Fennimore surrounded by her family. She now joins family and friends in heaven.

Vivian (Eck) Alcott was born October 28, 1927 in Ellenboro Township to Raymond and Berniece (Hall) Eck. Vivian attended elementary school at the rural Elmdale School and graduated from Cassville High School in 1945 and then earned a two-year teaching degree from Platteville Normal School. Vivian taught grades 1-8 at the Dixon School near Preston. It was then she met John Alcott, an area farmer, whom she married on June 9, 1948. From that point on Vivian farmed alongside John on their farm in rural Wingville Township. She continued to farm with son David after John’s death. Vivian enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and needlepoint and most of all spending time with her family. She was a lifelong member of the Montfort United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, Womens VFW Auxiliary, Bethel Stitch and Chat Club, Royal Neighbors of America, and Women’s Euchre Club.

Survivors include three children; Joyce Elizabeth (Mark) Matthews of Livingston, Jane Ellen (Dennis) Roesch of Lancaster, and David John (Kathy) Alcott of Montfort. Further survivors are 8 precious grandchildren: Amy Vesperman, Sarah (Joel) Fuerst, Adam (Kristen) Matthews, Jeff Roesch, Joe (Erin) Roesch, Crystal (David) Brokopp, Amy Alcott, and Emily Alcott; 9 great grandchildren-Ashley, Jacob, Aidan, Zayne, Tytan, Lyla, Skylar, Amelia, and Olivia; and 1 great-great grandchild due in July. Vivian is further survived by brothers Roger (Shirley) Eck, Robert (Phyllis) Eck, and sisters LaVon (Albert) Miller and Betty (Paul) Pluemer, and sisters-in-law Dorothy Eck, Kay Eck, and Doris Eck.

Vivian was preceded in death by her husband John (1964), parents Raymond and Berniece Eck, brothers- Stanley Eck, Virgil Eck, Clayton Eck and infant Jackie Eck, great grandson Nicholas James, sister-in-law Velma Volenec as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday Feb. 22, 2016 at the Montfort United Methodist Church with burial to follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Montfort. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. on Sunday evening Feb. 21, 2016 at the Soman-Larson Funeral Home in Montfort and from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at the church on Monday morning. In lieu of plants and flowers, a memorial fund is being established in loving memory of Vivian J. Alcott.
