Virgil Floyd White, 88, of Fennimore, WI was called home on September 14th of 2022. He was born on February 24th of 1934 to Fred and Alice (Cooley) White. He grew up on a farm in Little Grant Township.
Virgil married his loving wife, Beverly M. Munns, on December 14th, 1957. Together, they had 3 boys, Randy White (Diane Clark) of Fennimore, Bernie White of Lancaster, and Fred (Amy) White of Bagley. Another special child in their life was Dawn Phelps of Prairie Du Chien, WI who they enjoyed taking care of for many years.
Virgil served in the United States Airforce for 4 years. He went to the Korean War as Staff Sergeant training Jet Pilots on T-33s. He was described by superiors as an “outstanding, hardworking crew chief” and a “credit to the USAF and his country”. Virgil returned home, and together, he and Beverly farmed for 30 years in Mt. Hope on Virgil Ln. After selling the farm and moving to town in ’86, he began working at the Feed Mill until retirement. Virgil enjoyed fishing and was an avid card player. In retirement, he loved camping with all the grandkids in Bagley, where he kept the fire going all weekend. He liked watching sports of any kind and sitting on the front porch. Virgil was a proud member of the American Legion Auxiliary – Grey-Wachter-Murphy Post Mt. Hope, WI. He had a contagious smile and loved his grandkids and great grandkids more than anything.
“Papa Virg” was the proud grandfather of 8 grandchildren: Matthew (Kassi) White, Amanda (Scott) Kempel, Michelle (Tom) Christiansen, Ariel (Alex) Johnson, Brianna White, Kevin (Jaina) White, Emma Merz and Ashton White; and 11 great-grandchildren.
