Fennimore – Robert “Bob” Frank Craig, age 79, of Fennimore, died on Tuesday September 8, 2015 in Fennimore. Bob was born on April 29, 1936 in Madison, WI the son of David and Hazel (Janda) Craig.
Bob graduated from Fennimore High School and later attended UW Madison, earning a BS degree from the School of Pharmacy. While at UW Madison, Bob was a member of the concert and marching bands. It was also at Madison where Bob met his future wife, Karen Hoffman, who was also in Pharmacy School. Bob and Karen where married on June 27, 1959 and observed their 56th wedding anniversary this year.
Bob did pharmacy relief work for a short time before getting a job in a pharmacy in Dubuque, IA in 1960. In 1967, Bob and Karen returned to Fennimore and purchased Craig’s Drug Store from Bob’s father. Bob and Karen continued to run the drug store until retiring in 1998.
Bob was a dedicated and faithful member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, the Fennimore Kiwanis Club, serving as president three times, the Fennimore Railroad Historical Society Museum, and the Marsden Park Board of Trustees. Bob loved giving rides to children on the miniature train and was so proud of the Marsden Park. He also enjoyed bowling, golfing, reading, and writing about family history. He and Karen also liked to travel and were fortunate to recently take a trip to Europe to visit many ancestral homes in the “old county”. Bob’s dedication and service to the community of Fennimore will be forever cherished and his contributions will be felt for years to come.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife Karen of Fennimore, three children; Brian (Elizabeth) Craig of Milwaukee, Brad (Tish) Craig of Cedar Falls, IA, and Melissa Craig of Boscobel, two grandchildren; Kalena Craig and Travis Armstrong, sister Carolyn (Don) Shelp of Madison, brother David (Roberta) Craig of Littleton, CO, brother-in-law Craig (Jan) Hoffman of Fort Wayne, IN, sister-in-law Penelope Claflin of Sturgeon Bay, sister-in-law Debby (John) Pieper of Green Bay WI, along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents David and Hazel Craig, two infant sisters, and in-laws Lawrence and Erma Hoffman.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday Sept. 12, 2015 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Fennimore with burial to follow in the Prairie Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. on Friday evening Sept. 11, 2015 at the Larson Family Funeral Home in Fennimore and from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at the church on Saturday morning. A memorial fund is being established in loving memory of Robert F. Craig.
