Richard L. “Dick” Hindman

Richard L. “Dick” Hindman, age 83, of Fitchburg Wisconsin, teed off for his final round the morning of February 8, 2026.  Dick was born July 29, 1942, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, to Willie Lee and Mary Ruth Hindman.  Dick grew up in Chattanooga, graduating from Red Bank High School in 1960.  Dick served in the United States Air Force from 1962 to 1966, with assignments in Germany and Turkey. While stationed in Madison, Wisconsin, he met the love of his life, Linda Schauff. They were united in marriage on February 12, 1966.

Dick retired from the State of Wisconsin in 2005. He and Linda enjoyed winter travels to Florida and Arizona.  Dick was a devoted fan of the Green Bay Packers, the Milwaukee Brewers, the Wisconsin Badgers and the Tennessee Volunteers. He enjoyed reading, crosswords, traveling, old westerns, war movies, sports and the occasional visit to the casino. He loved attending the athletic events of his children and grandchildren over the years.

Dick’s true lifelong pastime was golf. He earned several tournament victories and gave back to the sport through decades of service serving on the Executive Board of the Wisconsin Public Links Golf Association, the Dane County Senior Golf Tournament Committee, as Director of the Ray Fischer Amateur Tournament at Riverside Golf Club in Janesville and President of the Yahara Hills Golf Association. In addition, he enjoyed many years of part‑time work at Yahara Hills, The Oaks, and Kestrel Ridge Golf Club.

Left to cherish his memory; his wife Linda, their children, Kim (John) Fleming and Tim, their grandchildren, Alexis (James), Marina (Hunter), and Jayce and their great‑grandchildren Wesley, Alivia, Hayden, and Kove. Dick is further survived by his nephew Mark (Sheila) Hindman, niece Angie Box, brother in laws, Dennis (Marcia) Schauff, Doug (Beth) Schauff and Joe (Peggy) Schauff and many more nieces and nephews.  Dick was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Gerald, and his in‑laws Clarence and Margaret Schauff.

Dick requested no fuss and no flowers. Instead, he asked that his life be celebrated through donations to Agrace Hospice Madison WI, the American Junior Golf Association or to the Parkinson’s Foundation.  A private family burial will take place at a later date.

Dick had a bigger than life personality. He loved to connect with people and could strike up a conversation with anyone.  He had an unshakable love for his family and the game of golf.  He will be deeply missed.
