Nancy Jane (Meininger) Horn, age 55, of Fennimore, passed away on Monday, January 18, 2016 peacefully at home after a two year battle with brain cancer. Nancy was born on July 8, 1960 to James and Elizabeth (Treder) Meininger in Toledo, OH and moved to Fond du Lac, Wisconsin when she was five years old. She attended Goodrich High School where she met her best friend and husband, Charles (Chuck) Horn. Nancy & Chuck were married on December 27, 1980 and lived in Janesville, Wisconsin for four years before moving to their current home in Fennimore, Wisconsin. Nancy and Chuck were blessed with three wonderful children, Katie, Bob and Amanda.
Nancy worked in the accounting, insurance, and banking business in Fennimore as well as for the City of Fennimore. Most recently, Nancy worked as a forestry aide for the Wisconsin Dept. of Natural Resources in Dodgeville before retiring in 2013. Nancy was an active volunteer in the Fennimore community, as a youth leader for the girl scouts, 4-H, church youth group and as a Sunday School teacher. Nancy also served as president of the Castle Rock Lutheran Church Women’s group and volunteered at the Fennimore Depot Exchange and the Fennimore Doll & Toy Museum. Nancy enjoyed crocheting, gardening, bird watching, fishing, hunting, travelling to Europe with her daughters and to exotic beaches with Chuck. She especially enjoyed being around her family and friends and her dogs, Winston, Sophie and Jack. Nancy was a kind and giving person who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Nancy is survived by her husband of 35 years, Chuck Horn of Fennimore, her children; Katie (Jedd Huntley) of Waukesha, Bob (Natasha Nebel) of Dubuque, IA and Amanda (Andy Piotrzkowski) of Middleton, father James (Nancy) Meininger, sister Linda Mathos, brothers; Robert Meininger, Thomas Meininger and Michael (Lynn) McTrusty, sister-in-law Ellie (Joseph) Puccio, nieces; Leah and Carrie Mathos, Elizabeth Meininger and Alina Puccio, nephew, Matthew McTrusty and step-grandsons, Preston and Mason Nebel, as well as many friends and co-workers.
Nancy was preceded in death by her mother Elizabeth Meininger and her in-laws John and Carol Horn.
A memorial service celebrating Nancy’s life will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, January 22, 2016 at Castle Rock Lutheran Church in rural Fennimore. Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M-8:00 P.M. on Thursday evening Jan. 21, 2016 at the Larson Family Funeral Home in Fennimore and from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at the church on Friday morning. Interment of the cremains will take place a later date in the Castle Rock Lutheran Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks folks to consider putting up a bird feeder or planting a bird friendly tree or shrub in Nancy’s memory. Memorials made in Nancy’s honor will be donated to a charity chosen by the family at a later date. Nancy’s family would like to thank the Home Health United Hospice Staff and the congregation of Castle Rock Lutheran Church for all the support, caring and meals during the past 4 months.
