Mary Martin, age 90, of Highland Wisconsin passed away Sunday January 9, 2022, at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg. She was born April 28, 1931, on the family farm in rural Montfort, the daughter of Wencel and Margaret (Winters) Straka. Mary was united in marriage to Joseph Martin on June 5, 1950, at the St. Thomas Catholic Church in Montfort.
Mary was very active on the farm helping her husband while raising the children. She also did seasonal work at the Cobb Canning Factory, Rural Route 1, and did substitute teaching for the Highland School District for many years. She enjoyed gardening, traveling and arts and craft. Mary was an active member of the Ss. Anthony & Philips Catholic Church. She had a deep faith and expressed it in her service to others. Her memory will be cherished forever.
Mary is survived by her two children: Janice (Aaron) Blask of Dodgeville and Steven Martin of Highland, three grandchildren: Jenny (Erik) Wineke of Dodgeville, Sara Blask (Aaron Harrison) of Dodgeville, Nate Blask of Madison, three great grandchildren: Violet, Jack, and Julian Wineke, two sisters: Helen Kite of Montfort and Lillian Zimmer of Glen Haven, sisters-in-law: Evelyn Straka of Fennimore, Julie Straka of Dodgeville, brother-in-law Bernerd Schuld of Marshfield and many nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Joseph, two sisters: Margaret Straka and Blanche Schuld, three brothers: Joe (Hazel) Straka, Clarence Straka, Charlie Straka, brother-in-law Francis Zimmer.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:30 A.M. Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at the Ss. Anthony & Philip Catholic Church in Highland with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:30 A.M. until the time of service at the church on Wednesday morning. The Soman-Larson Funeral Home of Montfort is assisting the family.
