Marietta C. (Wunderlin) Tarrell, age 96, of Fennimore, died on Monday evening Dec. 5, 2016 at Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster. Marietta was born on May 23, 1920 in Harrison Township, Grant County, WI the daughter of Frank and Maud (Horner) Wunderlin. She married Melvin C. “Pete” Tarrell on Aug. 19, 1941 at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Montfort.
Marietta attended the Wunderlin rural school and graduated as salutatorian from St. Andrew High School in Tennyson. She also graduated from Platteville Normal School with a degree in rural education. She taught rural school until her marriage and later taught as a substitute.
Marietta and Pete farmed for a few years before moving to Fennimore where they owned and operated the Hilltop bar and restaurant for over 40 years. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Marietta’s greatest joy was being with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed cooking, dancing, playing cards and visiting the casino with friends. She was an avid sports fan and attended and watched many games on TV. He favorite teams were the Packers, Brewers and the Chicago White Sox.
Marietta is survived by her son Lloyd (Paula) Tarrell of Fennimore, eight grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, son-in- law Richard (Debra) Baker of Fennimore, sister-in-law Cecilia Wunderlin of Platteville and many nieces and nephews.
Marietta was preceded in death by her parents, husband Pete on Jan. 20, 2005, daughter and son-in-law Connie and David Kirk and daughter Mary Maud Baker, great granddaughter Bayli Jo Kirk, sister Rose Eustice, four brothers, Ralph, Francis, Ambrose and Walter Wunderlin and two special nephews, Jim Wilkins and Mervin Wunderlin.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday Dec. 10, 2016 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Fennimore with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 P.M. on Friday evening Dec. 9, 2016 at the Larson Family Funeral in Fennimore.
