Judith J. Winkers

FENNIMORE/ONALASKA - Judith J. Winkers, age 82, died on Saturday, April 6, 2024. Judy was born on June 3, 1941, the daughter of Rudy and Hazel (Howell) Vogel. She married Jim Winkers on April 28, 1962. Judy graduated from Fennimore High School with the class of 1959. She worked as a hairdresser and when she and Jim became parents, she happily stayed home to raise her daughters. As they grew older, she went to work as a cook for Fennimore schools. She was never afraid of hard work and lived her life with a servant’s heart. She cleaned and painted homes and took care of many elderly people in the community. She was a Stephens Minister for the United Methodist Church and comforted many during their time of need.

Judy cherished her friends and family. The friendships she created in high school stayed with her all of her life, the group of girls calling themselves the “Half-Century Gang” after they all turned 50. She looked forward to their annual trip every summer. Judy loved spending time not only with family, but with friends and neighbors. She always had time for a cup of coffee and chat around the kitchen table. She loved the holidays, especially Christmas, and made those times special for everyone.

Jim and Judy lived in Fennimore all of their married lives, moving to Onalaska seven years ago to be closer to family. Judy was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who always put her family first. She loved so much being a mom, but she loved being a grandmother even more. She was always so proud of her “Famous Five,” and loved taking each grandchild for a week in the summer for some one-on-one time.

Judy is survived by her two daughters, Amy Reedy of West Salem and Angela Winkers of LaCrosse; her five grandchildren, Michael, Hannah (Cameron) Robaczewski, Noah and Meghann Reedy and Cody Winkers; brother Dale (Alice) Vogel and sister-in-law Nancy Vogel, as well as her nieces and nephews.

Judy was preceded in death by her husband Jim, her parents and her brother, Dean Vogel.
