Muscoda/Castle Rock Ridge - John George Yanna, Jr., 85, was born at home to Nora (Nowak) and John J. Yanna on April 23, 1928 in Castle Rock Township and died Wed. Jan. 22, 2014. He served in the Korean War from 1951-1953 and married his wife, June, on Aug. 4, 1953.
Family, farming and Case tractors were his passion. John also enjoyed his annual winter gathering with friends in Texas and his trips to the Czech Republic and Europe.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lila June (Mayne); children John (Cindy), Jeanette, Jeff, Joanne and “son” Steve (Brenda) Nelson; grandsons John, Jared and step granddaughter Jennifer (Joel) Engelhart; 3 step great grandchildren; sisters Marcella Delkamp and Lorraine (Lawton) Alderson; sisters-in-law Alice Yanna and Genevieve Wiste.
He was preceded in death by infant daughter, Jacqueline; his parents; sisters Dorothy Minter, Eleanor Whitish, Gertrude Weichman and infant sister Mary Alice; brothers Henry and Arnold; mother and father-in-law Wealtha and Cecil Mayne; sisters-in-law Helen Yanna, Blanche Hill and Elsie Murphy; brothers-in-law William Delkamp, Bernard Whitish, Lyle Weichman, Orville (Bunker) Hill, LaVerne Murphy and Warren Wiste.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday Jan. 27, 2014 at St John Nepumocene Catholic Church in Castle Rock Twsp., Grant Co., WI. Burial with military honors will follow in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held from 4-8:00 P.M. on Sunday evening Jan. 26, 2014 at the Larson Family Funeral Home in Fennimore where a Rosary service will take place at 3:30 P.M. Visitation will also be held from 9:30 A.M. - 10:30 A.M. at the funeral home on Monday morning.
